It depends on what you are building. In Victoria, an open pergola can be exempt from a building permit when it meets the relevant size, height and siting requirements. Roofed verandahs require a building permit. Jake will talk you through what applies to your project before work begins so you know what needs to happen without making permits the starting point of the conversation.
